CJP Protest: Dimple Yadav, other leaders detained, claims Samajwadi Party

Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav, wife of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, was detained by police, Samajwadi Party (SP) claimed on Monday afternoon.

Dimple Yadav, along with several other Samajwadi Party leaders, were said to have been detained during their march from Parliament to Jantar Mantar to express solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), amid the civil protest led by Abhijeet Dipke to demand government accountability over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak case.

“The detention of Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav and other Samajwadi Party MPs by police while they were raising the voice of students in Delhi, along with the police baton charge on students, is highly condemnable and undemocratic,” read a post in Hindi on the official X handle of the Samajwadi Party.

Earlier in the day, the Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed a stormy start, as Samajwadi Party lawmakers hit the streets, marching from Parliament to Jantar Mantar to express solidarity with the protesting students.

Led by Dimple Yadav, a delegation of SP MPs marched through the streets, raising chants and slogans over the gross mismanagement of examinations. They further accused the government of being callous and indifferent to students’ concerns. The party leaders were spotted holding banners like ‘Paper Leak’ and ‘NEET hai ya CHEAT hai’.

Over the past few weeks, Jantar Mantar in the national capital has remained the epicentre of protests against NEET paper leaks, where social activist Sonam Wangchuk sat on hunger strike for 20 days before being removed by the police.

The protesting students are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged paper leaks.

“Today, the situation is such that the youth want to raise concerns, but the government refuses to listen or engage in dialogue. Despite people being on a fast, the government is so rigid and callous that it refuses to heed anyone else’s views. Because of the corrupt government, the nation’s youth and students are bearing the brunt and suffering immense mental stress,” IANS quoted Dimple Yadav as saying.
